Visitors to the ornamental pond

All kinds of Dragonflies visit the pond.  This lady came this afternoon to lay eggs on the waterlily pads.  These are the most welcome of all visitors because they consume large quantities of mosquitoes!  Sticks placed around the pond give them a place to perch; there is hardly ever a time when there is a vacant stick.

Other permanent visitors to the pond are toads and frogs which serenade all night long, birds which gather on the sloping sides to take a drink, wasps and other flying creatures land on the lily pads to drink, and there was even a turtle who found her way up up the street from the creek to have her babies in the pond!

There will be more "pond pics" to come, but the primary current resident is Abraham the gold fish.  Over the years there have been many generations of gold fish but now only Abraham remains - he is probably about 12 years old.

After an extended drought and continuing unpleasantly high temperatures the leaves are already falling.  Maybe this year I'll actually use the pond net to catch them instead of keeping it in the shed!  When it cools off!!!
