Three favorite lakes on three continents - part 1
I love water - rivers, sea water, lake water - they all make me happy. Here are three of my favorite lakes, with more to come later. Central America : Panajachel, Solola, Guatemala Often described as “The Most Beautiful Lake in the World”, Lake Atitlan is hemmed in on all sides by volcanoes and steep hills. The lake is at least 1050 ft deep and measures 11.5 miles by 7.5 miles at its widest point. Mornings are usually calm, but by early afternoon the Xocomil wind makes boat travel quite a rock’n’roll experience. The legend of the Xocomil will have to wait for another post!!! The Lake is surrounded by traditional Mayan villages, many of which are accessible by boat for day trips and/or overnight stays, where visitors can immerse themselves in this ancient culture.
